This afternoon we picked up where we left off by looking at the documentary featuring Anderson Cooper and the effects of social media on middle school students. Bobby showed a particular interest in the topic which led to some good discussions on the different ways that social media can harm young people. Bobby practiced his note taking skills during the presentation and will use these notes to complete a series of questions on the topic.
This morning Bobby and I continued our study of the fossil record. We learned the different ways in which fossilization can occur. We also discussed how fossils are dated and the differences between relative dating and absolute dating. We reviewed the questions from the homework on Friday before moving forward. Homework is to read pages 199-206 and answer questions 1-7 & 9
This morning Bobby and I continued our review of dividing fractions. We practiced the homework problems which included composite fractions and negative composite fractions. Lesson Comments
Bobby did not have his homework assignment again today. I rarely assign homework because he never does homework. His language arts grade is pulled down by low spelling quiz scores. Before giving the spelling quiz, I always give him time to study the words because he has not prepared.
Bobby completed summarizing the book "Holes." He revised the story. He discovered that he had used certain words repeatedly. He removed some and replaced others. He edited for capitalization, punctuation, and spelling.
The afternoon we continued our exploration of ancient India by taking a closer look at the development of the Hindu and Buddhist religions. We will make comparisons of how they differ and how they are the same. Homework: TBA
This afternoon we ventured over to the new school to check on the baby praying mantis. We have discovered that water is critically important to their survival and although there do not appear to be any new hatchlings, there are at least 50 mantids that appear to be alive and well. Bobby and I visited the local Petco and purchased a culture of fruit flies to feed the mantids. We will purchase additional culture medium in order to sustain our own population of wingless fruit flies.
After warm-up and stretching, Bobby did squats, glute bridges, calf raises, jumpees, leg curls, leg extensions, ankle leg lifts, ab knees to elbow, and cool down and stretch.
