Punctuation w/commas and sentence combining strategies
Lesson Outline
We began with a review of previously discussed comma rules. Given prescribed sentence patterns, Bobby wrote and punctuated original sentences requiring commas. Next we discussed and practiced sentence combining as a way of making writing more succinct and varied.
Bobby chose two prompts for this week's assignment. The prompts need to be completed by next session.
Bobby will show me the results of his first draft for his bio. I will review and check for grammar and continuity errors. I will help Bobby complete his bio and the remaining components of his About page.
We will take a look at all the parts that will make Bobby's website. I will give him the game plan for how we will attack this project. I will explain to Bobby hierarchy as it relates to his Services page.

Bobby warmed up and stretched. Afterwards, he did reverse curls, TRX tricep extensions, face pulls (rope). spider hammer curls, tricep push (rope), shrugs (hex bar), incline cable curls, reps, and toe taps (feet on bench). He also did medium ball rotations and ab bench crunches.
Bobby completed his revision of the sample paragraph he was given yesterday. We discussed the reasons for additional changes in spelling, comma use, and sentence combining for succinctness).
This morning we continued working on the worksheet featuring Frankenfish of the Snakehead carp. We compared the environmental impact of the snakehead with that of the Asian Carp and its effect on the Mississippi River and Great Lakes area. We discussed possible ways to confront an invasive species problem such as physical barrier, biological remedies etc. Homework: None
This morning we continued our review of chapter four in preparation for the chapter four test at the beginning of next week. We completed each section review and practiced solving questions in the standardized test section at the end of the chapter. Homework is to read page 217 and complete 1-10.
In grammar, Bobby identified direct objects in sentences. We read 3 chapters in "Holes." While reading, he used the comprehension strategy of synthesizing. He tied together clues from the text. He summarized the most important details revealed about the character's past.
Bobby should practice spelling words for homework.
This afternoon Bobby and I completed our review of the Hittites and their contribution to early Egyptian innovation and warfare. We examined the location of early Egypt in relation to the Nile and briefly discussed the building of the first pyramids. Homework is to read pages 93-100 and complete #'s 1-3
This afternoon we continued our exploration of the ecosystem by examining the relationship between herbivores, carnivores and omnivores. We continue to work from the article on the Asian snakehead which is an omnivore and an extremely well adapted organism. Homework: obtain the ten gallon aquarium for the mantids.
This morning Bobby and I continued our review of chapter four by completing the homework problems in sections 4.4, 4.5 and 4.6. These problems focused on computing the lowest common denominator and adding/subtracting expressions written in scientific notation. Homework is to read page 216 and complete all ODD questions 1-16 and 18-33.
