We reviewed Bobby's paragraph about LeBron, and he revised it once more since it still contained several run-ons. We discussed sentence combining strategies as we worked. For homework, Bobby will read one article at www.sneakerinc.com, print it, and write a brief summary of it on the back. He can contact me via email if he has any questions about the assignment: d.smallwood@battschools.org
Bobby read an excerpt from "Stray." He used critical thinking skills to analyze cause and effect of characters' actions. He wrote two paragraphs with topic sentences and cited evidence to defend his interpretation of characters' actions. We read a chapter in "Holes," and we discussed it. Bobby should review spelling words for a quiz on Thursday and finish reading chapter 7 in "Holes" for homework.
This afternoon we reviewed the material on pages 28-34 before moving forward. We summarized those facts relating to the Stone Age and explored several theories focusing on the evolution of man and his migration out of central Africa i.e. "The Out of Africa Theory". We discussed various reasons as to why early humans migrated and how they adapted to new environments in search of food, more favorable climate conditions or to flee predators or rival tribes. Homework is to read pages 36-39 and complete problems 1-4.
This afternoon we completed the questions 1-11 on pages 80-81 which was assigned for the prior night's homework. Regrettably, Bobby did not bring his science text home which made it impossible for him to complete the assignment.
This morning we reviewed the homework from the previous night before moving forward. Once again, we continued to reinforce our mastery of solving and graphing inequalities from pages 151-153. Isolating the variable and remembering to carry the negative variable or integer was highlighted once again. Bobby's performance during this particular class was a stark contrast to his previous performance on Friday. He was much more engaged and showed confidence in his resolution of each problem. We solved about ten problems in short order whereby Bobby performed very well. Homework is to read pages 179-181 and complete problems 3-6, 12-19 and 20-23.
Revising writing to elimate run-ons and improve transitions; reading for meaning/analyzing writing structure

Bobby spent the rest of the period revising the paragraph accordingly. We will review his work next time. HW: Bobby will read the article (handout) that I gave him about sneakerheads and browse the link provided. We will discuss it tomorrow, and a related writing assignment will soon follow.
