This morning we focused on the processing of glucose through two fundamental process that take place with, and without oxygen. We discussed glycolysis, fermentation and respiration while expelling their differences and similarities. Homework is to read pages 80-81 and answer questions 1-11. This material is fairly complex and it will be imperative that Bobby invest time to insure that he understands how these processes work in the animal cell.

Lesson Comments
Bobby's behavior during the late morning, early afternoon classes was less than ideal. He spent considerable time breaking his pencils and looking for opportunities to deviate from the lesson. I addressed his behavior with him on several occasions and took away the pencils. Unsure whether or not this was an isolated event but it is worth noting nonetheless.
This morning Bobby arrived to class once again having forgotten his backpack which contained his homework, daily planner etc. Ironically, he did remember to bring two of his textbooks. This is becoming a recurring theme. We spent a major portion of the class redoing the homework and making sure that Bobby understood the material. Homework is to read pages 151-153 and solve problems 3-8 and 14-21.
This afternoon we practiced our note taking skills while watching the documentary "The Deep Ocean". Bobby is doing a good job of applying the basic skills but much practice is needed in learning how to distinguish between a relevant factoid and 'ground clutter"- meaningless information that does not align with the main theme or topic. On several occasions, Bobby (and I) were distracted by the interesting content/visuals and missed an important piece of information.
Bobby will show me his progress that he has made on his daily art challenge. I will review it and give him helpful tips to make his process of creation easier. Bobby will be shown videos to introduce him to two artists, Doke and Sofles. These artists are unique in that they have come from the paint/graffiti backgrounds to being able to create their own businesses. In addition Bobby will be shown the creation of customized sneakers, cars, and I-phones.
Assignment
Student is to complete the rest of the daily art challenges
Bobby finishes up laying out his rooms that include 7 bathrooms and a pantry. A preliminary addition of all rooms and hallways comes to 6,800 square feet. With an estimate of $150.00/square foot, Bobby home alone would come to $1,020,000 (not including property). This exceeds the maximum square footage set at 5,000. This mean he will have to eliminate some of his rooms and/or cut down somewhere to keep within the limits set. Great session.
We discussed Bobby's "favorite athlete" paragraph and necessary revisions, with a focus on organization and specificity of supporting details, using commas before coordinating conjunctions joining two independent clauses, and the proper use of the semi-colon. He then wrote a draft of a similar paragraph about his least favorite athlete.
Assignment
None - We will revisit his new paragraph draft next week.
This afternoon we discussed the ways that glucose is broken into usable chemical energy in the form of ATP. We discussed how respiration takes place in two steps whereby the first step is called "glycolysis" and this takes place in the cytoplasm of the cell. The second step produces more ATP and takes place inside the mitochondria. We compared respiration and fermentation and identified ways that this process is used to produce foods such as cheese, yogurt and bread Homework is to read pages 80-81 and complete #'s 1-11. This is an important chapter review and we will discuss Bobby's findings during class on Friday.
This afternoon we focused on a comparison between historians and archeologists. In addition, we looked at different samples or types of information that are used by historians and archeologists such as fossils, artifacts, primary and secondary sources. We reviewed the homework from page 11 before moving on. We discussed the importance of determining the credibility of your information or data before drawing a conclusion and how it is important to learn from history and to benefit from the mistakes made by people in the past. Homework: Read pages 12-17 and complete #'s 1-4
This morning we continued our study of solving and graphing inequalities. Bobby forgot his homework once again but we used the first half of class to review the problems nonetheless. It was apparent that he is becoming more comfortable with solving and graphing inequalities and we were able to complete the review rather quickly. I emphasized the importance of his checking his math subject binder before leaving school each day. Homework is read page 151-153 and complete #'s 3-8 and 14-21.

Lesson Comments
Organizational skills continue to be a problem for Bobby. He is very much aware of his lack of organizational proficiency but i am not sure if the effort is being given each night.
We explored the differences between asteroids, comets, and meteors. Then we played a game where we answered questions about planet rotation, moons, and temperature. Next we looked at the Milky Way and other galaxies to determine the types of stars. We viewed images from the Spitzer Space Telescope of star birth, spiral galaxies, and the universe.
