Today we practiced the problems in the mid chapter quiz on page 139. Bobby had some questions on a number of the problems so we took advantage of this time to reinforce some of the concepts we learned in this chapter. We completed #s 1-15 and then moved on to the section regarding inequalities. We wrote several examples on the whiteboard using a number line to graphically represent examples of inequalities. Homework: page 141 #'s 1-4 and page 142 #'s 3-10.
This morning we reviewed what we had learned during the video on Fossil Blunders. We reviewed most of the individuals that were prominently featured in the video while identifying those that were not. We are getting ready to complete the worksheet using our notes and making sure that our index cards are accurate and complete. Homework: study index cards
This morning we continued to practice solving equations with more than one variable. In addition, we continued to use the distributive property of both multiplication and addition as well as our order of operations. Homework is to read pages 120-121 and complete #'s 1-12.
Today I spent a few minutes talking with Bobby about his hobbies and interests, as well as what he considers his writing strengths and weaknesses. He began writing a paragraph about his favorite athlete, providing specific reasons for his choice. We discussed logical order and transitions between sentences as he worked. He will complete the assignment for tomorrow. It will be a good diagnostic, and he and I will review it together, discussing how to improve it both in terms of content and mechanics. I reminded him to write the assignment in his planner.
Bobby used the context or surrounding words to determine word meaning. He completed reading the "Long Walk to Water." Bobby and I discussed the lessons that the main character learned and how he could apply them to his life. We reviewed spelling words. Bobby should review words at home for a quiz on Thursday.
WE have completed our expository writing essay and my hope was to begin the next chapter in our curriculum. Unfortunately, the textbook has not yet arrived and we decided to practice note taking skills during our video on The Kingdom of Plants. The information will be useful in Earth Science class. I have asked Bobby to followup with his father as to the status of the textbook.
We introduced plants into our discussion of multicellular organisms. We are making comparisons between animal and plant cells and then exploring the evolutionary adaptations that plants have made to improve their chances of survival. Some of these adaptations included reproduction or pollination attractors, camouflage, defense and competition with other plants. Homework: none

Bobby left his textbook at home making it difficult to assign homework.
This afternoon we focused on solving equations that do not contain integers. We applied the same approach to solving these equations and then substituted variables with numeric values. H/W: Mid chapter quiz on page 139 1-15/

Bobby feigned confusion at first but soon realized that our approach to solving these equations was identical to solving equations with numeric values. FYI
Bobby lays out his three car garage on graph paper in the scale of 1/4" = 1'. We then look at a you tube explanation of what an architect does. The question, "the best way to lay out my rooms with the best traffic pattern." Lastly, a look at what things will be shown on his floor plan. Bobby should bring his envelope with cutouts which he said was left in the car. Good session.
