correcting fragments and run-on sentences
Lesson Outline
Bobby and I went over his spelling words. We discussed their parts of speech and how they could be used in sentences. Bobby corrected sentence fragments and run-on sentences in the "Houghton Mifflin English" text. We read 4 chapters in "A Long Walk to Water." We discussed how all African life revolves around water.

Bobby should practice spelling words daily and be prepared for a quiz on Thursday. He should complete two passages and comprehension questions on ReadTheory.org for homework.

Expository essay wrap up!
Lesson Outline
Bobby and I worked on the completion of his expository essay by completing the last of his opposing arguments. It was interesting to note that Bobby's original position in support of Colin's actions has actually been influenced by the results of his research into Colin's background and how his motivations for kneeling during the national anthem might have been more self-serving to draw attention to himself as opposed to "calling out" racial inequality. His paper is finished and represents a very positive effort!

This morning we focused on reviewing the problems on pages 133 and 134 involving equations with variables on both sides of the equals. Bobby was able to complete the problems confidently and reasonable quickly. I have asked Bobby to ask his father to bring any hand outs from his Mathnasium classes in order to get a better idea as to what material is being covered. Homework: none. We are going to completing the questions on page 134 on Monday.

Combining variables on both sides of the equals
Lesson Outline
This morning we reviewed the steps needed in order to simplify equations containing two or more variables on both sides of the equals sign. Bobby was completely prepared for class and admitted that he was only able to complete about one third of the evenings' assignment (page 133). We took he opportunity to discuss his evening schedule on a typical weekday and Bobby admitted that he had trouble sleeping. I am concerned that Bobby does not have a dedicated time each evening solely focused on homework. He admitted that the average evening workload is about 45 minutes which is light. In addition, he often has athletic events, or mathnasium or Fast Forward which reduces his time allotment for homework by an hour or more. We completed the problems on pages 131 and 133 before moving on to the next section. Homework is to complete problems 5-8 on page 133 and 11-14 on page 134.
