Sophie seems to have "checked out" of school lateley. She does not want to pay attention in class, describes any assignments or teaching as teachers "being difficult" and has a generally bad attitude about any kind of work being assigned or taught. Im not sure how to deal with this problem here at the end of the semester.
Sophies grade right now is at an 83% which puts her in danger of getting a C if she does not perform well on her final, but also puts her in favor of getting an A or A- if she takes the final seriously and works hard to do well.
I think some encouragement is necessary, but I also think that she is not being encouraged to take school seriously here at JBP.

we are doen with Sophie's computer project so we used this time to begin Sophie's final graded english essay. Sophie at first did not want to since this was 'computer' class, but after reminding her of the short time left to complete this assignment, she acquiesced. I'm hoping - in vain perhaps, that this will help her schedule better and use available time better.

Sophie was moving pretty slowly today. We discussed her assignment for her English class, which is due at the end of the week. She needs to respond to a question about the novel she has not finished reading, so we looked at the themes of the novel and compared those to themes of other novels she's recently read. She did not pick up on the common themes easily but after some digging I think she began to see the common traits of an adolescent protagonist.
1. Sophie will be able to simplify radicals, including rationalizing the denominator.
2. Sophie will be able to do operations with radicals.

We are trying to move as quickly as possible through the material that needs to be covered by the end of the year. Sophie took a quiz on the concepts that were covered on Monday. She got 100%.
Today sophie and I covered Mitosis more, as well as working on Meiosis. We began with a short lecture reviewing mitosis and the cell cycle. Then we watched a Bill Nye video on the cell cycle and Genes. Finally we applied that information to some practice problems and discussed sophies final project.
