Quiz: 100% Kaitlin took her sports quiz today. She did a good job of coming prepared.
She was given exactly 3 minutes to review as her prior teacher was just exiting the class as I entered and she would not have any time to refresh immediately prior to the class.
We reviewed her answers together. I explained some of the nuances as we went along.
We then read from a supplemental book and pointed the syntax verbs from this chapter that appear in that text. We reviewed different ways that she can think about the sentences to help her effectively switch from Spanish to English.
Kaitlin took her quiz on the first set of vocabulary for Chapter 5. It was evident that she had done some studying. However, the quiz took her more time than was originally allotted. This is an indicator that she study more in the future.
Cam had Tank (his tortoise) with him today. To help keep the tortoise clean and comfortable we had our lesson outside.
First, we read about half of one of our supplemental books. I translated this book for Cam as we went along. When sentences that Cam could translate on his own would come along, I would ask him to do so.
We pointed out different vocabulary words and conjugations from the text as we went along.
I asked David a series of questions about stem changing verbs.
He was able to answer many of the questions about the conjugation of the verbs. However, he struggled with the English translations of the verbs on which we have been focusing.
We read from a supplemental book. David said that he was familiar with the series in English and seemed to enjoy the story. He actively put forward translations to the things we read and did so quite accurately.
We revisited our reading about the two main characters of El Quijote. We went beyond the text and discussed the plot of the novel as well as one main exemplary occurrence.
After reviewing briefly together, we determined that Kaitlin was likely not ready for the quiz today. We then highlighted information on which she should focus prior to taking the quiz. We discussed how she should adjust her studying practices in the future.
She was given some grace to take the quiz tomorrow. However, she was also informed that she should not count on this a second time.
We read portions of a supplemental book and discussed how the text related to our gramatical concepts from this chapter.
