We worked on data cleaning techniques, writing about the data collection process, and writing the proposal for her second course project.
Assignment
(1) Clean and prepare data frames for analysis, (2) Finalize written course proposal and written data collection for Project #1, (3)Write project proposal and data collection process for Project #2

Extended session 15 minutes (All extensions for Emma have been pre-approved by Connie)
Emma and I met at the Gardens mall to conduct surveys for her course projects. We approached people sitting in the food court to ask if they would mind answering a few quick questions for her school project. Most people were very supportive, but some did refuse to participate. It was a good exercise in managing rejection and helped Emma to understand how involved a statistical study is. We were thrown a few curve balls in the responses that we received. After the first few tries, we took a moment to change the phrasing and rehearse it. Most people we approached after that were willing to participate.
Finding probabilities from a binomial probability distribution
Lesson Outline
We reviewed and clarified how to find a probability of exactly k successes in n trials using the formula and the calculator. We extended that concept to finding the probability k or fewer and k or more successes. We went through her homework problems and discussed the binomial distribution formula in detail.
We finalized and printed Emma's data collection survey and data frame for Course Project #1: Handbag Designer Preference, and performed more research for Course Project #2: Waist-to-Hip Ratio Preference. We looked again at the images we selected from our web search yesterday, printed them, and then decided that we needed a couple more options as a means of controlling for bias that could be caused by differing aesthetics of the models' poses. We've decided upon the three images we intend to use for the survey, and Emma will work on editing them so that the printouts look more uniform, in order to control for bias.
6.2 Transforming Data and Probability Distributions
Lesson Outline
We worked through the problems that Emma had questions about from her homework assignment, then we reviewed basic probability by playing some probability games online. We reviewed the Monty Hall problem and debated which theory was correct, based on what we've covered about probability.
Assignment
Tomorrow, get review resources from teacher to practice over the weekend.
This afternoon, we watched some student presentations of other AP students course projects, and reviewed some sample reports to provide concrete examples of how to construct her own course projects. We also worked on her survey for the handbags data she will soon be collecting, and did some research on a second research question we are developing.
Assignment
Write up a first draft of the study design, find two pictures for body preference project
