Arianna is absent from school today. I spoke to her tutor in St. Louis today and we have a plan to keep her practicing her addition, subtraction, and teen numbers.
Gracyn and I began our time together today reviewing our sight words. Today's sight word is all. She colored it, wrote it, and did a few puzzle games using it. Next we reviewed the "st" words. In Bible we read 1 Chronicles 16:12: Remember the wonderful things God has done. We talked about all of the wonderful things God has made! Especially cake and ice cream!! Next we got back into her reading. She read Tiger Sharks again. This time she read with more accuracy! She wrote a book report on the story and she showed it to all of her friends and teachers at school.
I asked Gracyn to pick one of her most favorite things. She said her mom. We used a web to brainstorm things she loves about her mom. We thought of five things. Then I asked her to pick her favorite three things. We then used those three sentences to form a paragraph. We used I love my mom as her main idea in her paragraph and then wrote our her favorite three things as the supporting details. She used capital letters at the beginning of her sentence, correct spacing in between words, and punctuation.
Gracyn and I began the day reviewing the sight word "what". Gracyn colored the word, traced the word, wrote the word, and did a few puzzles with the word. Next we looked at her new book for the week "Tiger Sharks". First we did a picture walk. Then we did a word walk and wrote hard words that she didn't know on post its in the book. Next she read the book. She did so great!
Arianna is away for a couple of weeks. I packet was sent with her that she will be working on. Level books, comprehension worksheets and skill lessons are all part of the work that was sent. A social studies weekly studies lesson was also sent and Arianna will be using Reading eggs and ABC mouse as supplements.
I introduced Gracyn to our sight words this week. They are "but, all, what, and not." Today we focused on the sight word "not." Gracyn colored the word, traced the word, and wrote the word. Next we jumped into the blend "st". We brainstormed different words that started with the "st" sound and wrote them on the board. Gracyn thought of several including "stick, straw, stop, and star." Today is Groundhog Day! Gracyn predicted that the groundhog, Phil, would not see his shadow and that spring would come early. We watched the Groundhog Celebration in Pennsylvania! It was so exciting! The groundhog Phil didn't see his shadow! This means that spring is coming soon! Gracyn was correct! Today is also the 100th day of school. We counted out groups of 10 of various snacks, including goldfish, popcorn, pretzels, and chocolate chips. Then we counted by 10s to 100. The best part was eating them! We also wrote 100 words, wrote numbers 1-100, and what Gracyn would buy with $100. She said a doll house!
Expanded numbers using tens and ones. lesson 11-4. Two digit numbers can be written in expanded form such as 56- 50+6=56 or by drawing a picture using ten rods and one cubes.
