Georgia did well this hour. She is very interested in the SAT material because she wants to do well. She has a long way to go and will be taking the test in two weeks. Hopefully the hours spent working on SAT prep in her consumer math class will help!

Lesson Comments
Georgia and I began working on the chapter for managing a household. The first three lessons dealt with renting versus buying and the basic rules to follow for what you can afford based on income. The last two lessons covered the various types of mortgages that are available and the rates and terms of the mortgages. For our final lesson today, we began working on a budget that plans for covering the expenses that will be needed to move out after a six month period.
Since Georgia is a little stressed about getting her college applications completed, we worked on filling out her apps and discussed how she could budget for the fees that she would need for each application. We also worked on her online banking skills by setting up a payee and exploring the website to see how to print out a monthly statement for her account.
Georgia received her first paycheck so we went over the steps of filling out a deposit slip and withdrawing money from the paycheck. I then took her to the bank to make her deposit and receive her funds from the check. When we returned, we went to the online banking site to set her up for online banking and paperless enrollment.
I took Georgia to the bank today to open her first checking account. First we researched the internet to find out which bank offered the best terms for her account. She chose to open the account at Chase because they offered a student account with a low opening balance and no monthly fee while she remained in school. Although it took a little longer than the hour, Georgia was really excited about opening her first account and gaining a little independence as a young adult.
