Opinion piece completion, silent reading and discussion
Lesson Outline
Today Gwendolyn finished up her opinion piece of writing and turned it into a letter for Ms. Judie. She has really been working on transitions in her writing and it is evident in her new piece. When she was finished, she read silently in her chapter book and we discussed the chapter.
Gwendolyn and I spent the first portion of class conducting a verbal quiz in conversational/question-and-answer format. I asked many open-ended questions requiring Gwendolyn to explain why or to explain cause and effect. We looked to the historical atlas to observe changes in Europe after World War II. We read from the text and learned about the United Nations, the Truman Doctrine and the Marshal Plan. We looked to photos of damage to London from bombings, the United Nations' duties on Pinterest, and a short movie on BrainPop about the Cold War. We discussed the Cuban Missile Crisis and the concepts of containment and oppression. We also listened to the Rosie the Riveter song. We began discussing why the U.S. was involved in the Korean War.
Today, we were able to finish all nationalities expressing he/ she is from + country of origin and the equivalence of she/he is ecuatorian in Spanish. Also, Gwendolyn wrote a paragraph about famous people and stated where they were from.
Today we created two characters who will help us later with conversation about nationalities. Also, we labeled a map and all its Spanish speaking countries as a preparation for a quiz.
