Gwendolyn and I continued to learn about the Cold War. Gwendolyn understands the concept of containment and the Truman Doctrine. We discussed what a communist government is and how the two World superpowers competed during the Cold War, the arms race and the space race. We read about the Cuban Missile Crisis. We looked to several illustrations I have saved on Pinterest - the Cold War timeline, United Nations, and American Wars. We also discussed "oppression" and reasons behind our entry into the Korean War. We read together a Newsela article about Korea today and the nuclear weapons. We also looked to key terms on BrainPop "FYI The Cold War". We looked to the division of Korea at the 38th parallel. Finally, we looked to violations of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, while reding about Korea, to understand United Nations sanctions.
Today we continued talking about professions and jobs. We connected which tools each worker needs to perform his/her job to the corresponding profession. Also, we read a comic on " what I would like to be when I grow up", and Gwendolyn drew a picture of herself telling what she would like to be when she grows up. In addition, we wrote a short paragraph introducing people we know and telling about their job and profession.
Lesson 3 – What body parts enable movement, support, respiration, and circulation? - We learned that the bones support and protect the body and store minerals. We learned that the ribs and skull bones protect internal organs. Next we learned that bones attached to muscles help move the body. Then we learned that bones have a hard outer layer that contains calcium and inside is a spongy layer where blood cells are made.
