Gwendolyn began her lesson by warming up with several arpeggios in the C major scale. She then practiced her piece "Marriage of Figaro, by Mozart." She then started sight reading through "Clarinet Concerto, by Mozart", also.
Spelling word sort, vocabulary, and oral reading practice
Lesson Outline
Today Gwendolyn began our session with a word sort of her spelling words. She sorted words by corresponding suffixes. She completed pages 113 and 114 in her Sadlier Vocabulary book unit 11. When she was finished, we read together from her chapter book.
Today Gwendolyn made Ricotta Cookies. We started by creaming the butter and sugar until it was light and fluffy. Gwendolyn cracked the eggs and added them one at a time. She then added the ricotta cheese and vanilla. Next, Gwendolyn added the dry ingredients and mixed them till they were well incorporated. Gwendolyn scooped the dough onto a parchment paper lined baking sheet and baked them for 12 minutes. While the cookies were cooling, Gwendolyn mixed up a delicious pink frosting. She then frosted her cookies. They turned out great!
Topic 15 Solving and Writing Equations and Inequalities
Lesson Outline
15-2 Solving Multiplication and Division Equations
We practiced using the Commutative Property for Multiplication and the Division Property of Equality. Then we practiced solving problems by isolating the variable using the multiplication and division inverse relationships.
Topic 15 Solving and Writing Equations and Inequalities
Lesson Outline
15-1 Solving Addition and Subtraction Equations
We learned that an equation is a formula that shows two expressions that have the same value. Next we learned about the Addition and Subtraction Properties of Equality which provide that you can add or subtract the same value to both sides of an equation and the equation will remain the same. Then we learned that addition and subtraction have an inverse relationship because they have the opposite effect which is that they undo each other.
15-2 Solving Multiplication and Division Equations
We learned that the Commutative Property for Multiplication stating that a x b is equal to b x a is always true, regardless of the values substituted for the variables. Then we learned that the Multiplication and Division Properties of Equality provide that you can multiply or divide both sides of an equation by the same nonzero number without changing the value of the equation. Next we learned that multiplication and division have an inverse relationship because they have the opposite effect.
Gwendolyn and I reviewed at the start of class and defined vocabulary words. We will prepare for a Quiz next week. We watched a video on History.com about the invasion of Normandy/ D-Day. We also looked to changes in maps after WWII by way of an historical atlas. We discussed the Truman Doctrine and the United Nations. We learned about U.S. policy and what the U.N. does.
