Lesson Comments
This exercise of critically listening to and transcribing the drum part to a song is going to be very beneficial to Devin. In fact, as we were listening to the song this session, he picked up a couple of very subtle intricacies of the drum part that one could otherwise miss when listening superficially. They were things that I certainly did not hear until he pointed them out to me. Although we have only had two listening/transcribing sessions, he is already developing an ear for hearing detail in recorded music. Next session, I am going to let him take the lead in actually translating the rhythms into written form.

Lesson Comments
Devin is really excited about learning a song in which he can apply the skill he has developed. This exercise that we are doing will help develop his ear for hearing different percussion instruments within a song and interpreting the rhythms so that he can reproduce them and play along to the song.
