Lesson Comments
Sophia is really improving in her hand strength and note accuracy when playing lead parts. Her chords and strumming have always been very good. I am very pleased that she is taking an interest in learning to move around the fretboard and in playing more lead melodies.
Sophia was anxious to read more together analyzing character motivation and flashbacks that reinforced the earlier foreshadowing. Her critical thinking skills are being challenged and an admiration is growing for the complexity of plot in fiction.

Lesson Comments
Sophia is very engaged in the plot developments in the last half of the book -- she does not remember the ending and seems to have a different memory of the plot. The contrast is intriguing.

Lesson Comments
Sophia was a bit late to class and then wasted almost another 10 minutes preparing coffee, going to the bathroom, and organizing her books. For this, she received a participation grade of 80%. She also did not have her homework with her today. She will lose 10 points, receiving a maximum of 90% if she has it next time.
On the positive side, she took her outlining and monologue classwork very seriously. Her monologue cleverly assigned the name "Joe Rich" to her character, discussed Chicago as a major business post, mentioned the refrigerated rail car, and the power hungry culture at the time. Great job!!! Classwork grade of 100%.
Reviewed Sophia's corrections to her test. Watched fellow student's feudalism presentation. Outlined next two pages in chapter. Diagrammed the economics of big business monopolization, and how this initially benefits the public, but then hurts them.

Lesson Comments
Great job today. Sophia put in a lot of effort into her correction of the test. She had included more details and fixed many of the spelling errors. She received a 95%. She diagrammed monopolization on the board very well and had a good understanding of it. We updated our positive incentives chart to include a 5% participation element: This will correspond to her punctuality, her remaining in class for the duration, and her discipline with not answering her phone. We are still trying to decide on a field trip location for next Thursday.
