Introduction to energy, what it is, and the difference between potential and kinetic energy. Jackson is taking notes in science on the computer using Word. He learned how to create equations in Word today as he typed the equations used for gravitational potential energy and kinetic energy. Jackson is asked to think of a science project to work on. We will do calculations, and make tables in Excel and write up the presentation in Powerpoint. The deadline for the topic he chooses is next Wednesday.
Introduction to special factoring case: the Difference of Squares. Before factoring this special case, he did several examples foiling two binomials that have the same two terms but different signs.
We are discussing potential and kinetic energy. I showed him the formulas to calculate the gravitational potential energy as well as kinetic energy. I started to talk about the conservation of energy with him, and we did a sample calculation. I also introduced him to Microsoft Excel and we did a small table of calculations with potential energy.
Jackson continued to work on his essay about bullying based on the book, Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life. His main idea comes from a chapter in the book titled, "Is It Still Bullying If You're Bullying the Bully?"
We discussed the Haiti research assignment items and grading procedure. We discussed credible and valid sources and sources that may be biased and unreliable. Also, giving credit to sources cited was also explained. Then, Jackson began to use the internet to find visuals that relate to migratory patterns. Jackson is off to a solid start related to his research efforts. We will continue with the process the next time we meet.

Particulars related to a research assignment about Haiti was discussed. Bias verses credible sources was explained. Also, the grading procedure and the importance of citing sources were detailed. Jackson began to look for maps and graphs that can be applied/useful to the assignment, as well as meet one the the grading criteria concerning visual aids. He is off to a great start.

Jackson began typing up his essay on bullying, which is based on his reading of the book, Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life. He finished writing the introductory paragraph and the first key topic paragraph. Jackson spent the last few minutes working through a short grammar exercise.
Today we went over -AR conjugation and the 3 steps to do it. Jackson has homework for 2/15: to pick 4 verbs out of the verb list and conjugate them. Also , we went over the family unit vocabulary and learned about Puerto Rico and its flag and capital.
Jackson started writing his essay on the book he just finished, Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life. He came up with a thesis statement and three main ideas to support his thesis, wrote an outline, and started working on his introductory paragraph.
