Drafting, Rhyming, Reading
Lesson Outline
Today Maya and I had a very productive session. She completed drafting her story. She has done a great job following the steps of the writing process thus far! She used her prewriting lists to guide her drafting very well. Maya generated her sentences and I typed for her in the computer lab. We also began focusing on word work with a rhyming game today. Maya really seemed to enjoy the game, but struggled a little bit with finding all of the rhyming pairs in the beginning. She tended to want to categorize the words in other ways. Once she got the hang of it, she was very successful. Tomorrow we will sort her matches into long and short vowels and then begin focusing on the letter patterns that make long vowel sounds. I read aloud to Maya from our chapter book "Show and Tell". We discussed the characters in the story and the events of the chapter. Next, Maya read a chapter from her book "Mercy Watson". Lastly she completed the t pages in her cursive book.
