It was great to see Maya again, after the holiday vacation. She was enthusiastic and a pleasure to teach. I was very happy to see she remembered her 7X tables. I had intended on reteaching her these, but she was able to fulfill our deal. She completed her drill in under 2 minutes, therefore she will be focusing on learning the 8X tables. We found a couple of helpful songs, created flashcards and wrote them down in her notebook. Maya practiced some multi-step multiplication problems and completed lesson 6-7. Maya continued in her FF program. She is focusing on listening skills, and retaining multi-step directions. In L-B, I read aloud a story to Maya and she expressed the details she had visualized, before looking at the pictures in the book. Afterward she read a new story from her V/V workbook entitled, Treehouse. She was able to complete one section and will revisit the rest in her next class. Great job today!
I had a great first day with Maya! I am to happy to have her as a student! I shared a powerpoint with her to introduce myself and gave her an oral survey to get to know her. I am thrilled to find that she enjoys books and reading so much!
Maya shared her PBJ power point with me:)
Next, I read the story Someday with her. She really seemed to enjoy the story. I was impressed with how much she paid attention to detail. She also asked for clarification with anything she didn't understand in the story.
On Wednesday I will assess her reading level and Dolch Sight Word mastery.
Maya practiced her 7X tables and then we reviewed her homework and finished the rest of the problems in the review packet. This packet is a review of Topic 6 on multiplication fact strategies. Maya is gaining a clear understanding of the various multiplication meanings and has a good grasp on the math vocabulary such as factors, multiples, and product. Maya will complete this unit after she returns from the break and take her unit assessment. During her normal FF and LB time she participated with her peers in some fun holiday activities. Maya watched a short 10 minute movie about the Grinch Who Stole Christmas and gained an understanding of the meaning of Christmas. Afterwards she mixed ingredients in a science experiment to create Grinch Goo. After lunch she joined in on a student's birthday celebration and making gingerbread cookies. It was a fun and exciting day for all of the students to be able to spend quality time socializing and sharing in holiday festivities. Have a great, enjoyable break Maya and family.
After our holiday school projects, we still had time to practice yoga. We took turns leading the other in poses. I also taught Maya a new side stretch on the ball. We did warriors, happy baby, and combination gymnastics and yoga on the ball.
Maya and her peers decorated gift bags that will contain crafts to give to family members. They worked on folding paper accurately and lining up the edges, to cut to resemble snowflakes.
