As an extension to last session's lesson, Maya read an analysis of River Rescue. She read I'll Love You Forever and wrote her own analysis including a topic sentence, and cited evidence from the text. She read passages with a bolded term. She continued reading and had to identify a synonym in the remainder of the passage based on context clues of the first. She wrote a definition to the original unfamiliar term.

Maya read and re-read River Rescue to strengthen comprehension. This was a front and back sided selection. After just two minutes of reading, her eyes immediately started watering. We broke down the story into four small sections and took a movement and relaxing break between each. We did a lot of crazy eights, tapping, and jiggle bridge on her face. This helped tremendously. She wrote a response to 3 comprehension questions. There was an inferencing question that tripped her up. Why do you think Enid wants her friends to read and listen to stories? She kept repeating something she was saying but couldn't get past it. We stopped and used a balloon to stimulate left and right brain thinking to answer the same question, and she verbalized 3 ideas!
Maya is doing a beautiful job writing cursive! We worked on h, connected h with a, g, and c and practiced writing words with h in the beginning and middle of words. She was able to fluently write two complete sentences with one flow! Maya read A Family Tradition and wrote a response to 4 comprehension questions.
Maya practiced her 7x tables and did very well. I decided to quiz her today since she was ready. She knows she will be quizzed after the break on these to ensure she retains the information. She scored a 100. Maya reviewed finding products of 11 and 12. She practiced working with dozens and knows the difference between a dozen and a half of a dozen. She learned a trick - finding partial products to answer 12x table problems. Maya solved a few word problems using multiplication. Maya joined her peers to create snowflakes from paper, to add to her crafts. Maya continued in her FF program. She completed one module and we used some time to begin a topic test review in math. Great day, Maya!
