Today I was a substitute for Miss Heidi in Maya's Language Arts class. We used some of the time to complete her work from the classes she has with me. Afterwards, Maya read a short story from her program on her independent reading level. Maya and I took turns reading. Maya did a beautiful job reading and understanding the story. She was able to complete the quiz successfully after reviewing the story and the vocabulary. It was so sweet to listen to Maya read. Great job!

Maya is usually picked up at 2:45 on Tuesdays, but mom asked if she could stay a little longer (15 minutes) to make up for part of the day she missed.
Maya completed her math test on Topic 3. She scored an 85. Then we went over her homework from the previous night and completed some of the even numbers for review. Then Maya subtracted 2-digit numbers using paper and pencil methods and used subtraction to solve problems. Maya also revisited the meaning of using estimation and compatible numbers to determine if her answers are reasonable. In Fast ForWord, she continued her regular program. Maya completed work on a story she had started on Monday about ferrets. She drew pictures which demonstrated her comprehension and recorded these in their proper sequence. Maya answered questions with regards to the main idea, details, and summaries of the passage. Maya was out during her first morning class, so we used the time that we had to try to incorporate all of her classes to the best of our ability.
We had a rough start, but Maya was able to do beautiful work in the end.

The forth of July. The symbols of our country, American Flag, liberty Bell, and the Bald Eagle.Maya did very well. She responded to questions with accuracy, answered questions correctly after reading the information.
Maya practiced her 6X tables and began to write them on the dry erase board for additional practice. She had asked if she could write them after I had already started them and I agreed that would be a good idea. My goal was to point out to her that she has already learned most of these facts. The only ones she would not have learned were 6X5, 6X6, 6X7, and 6X8 and 6X12. She was having a difficult time sticking to the task.

It took some time to encourage her to return to her classwork. She did not want to complete her test. We stopped and she took some time for snack. I was surprised by her lack of compliance as Maya typically has a strong desire to do very well on her tests. Maya will have another opportunity tomorrow to finish the test. In her Fast ForWord program Maya needed reminding to remain focused. Maya was able to complete all three modules for the day, however it was a not a very productive day for her.
Maya and I first listened to the assigned story "Bonk's Haircut" on Raz-Kids. Maya did a great job of listening and following along. To ensure her progression of the storyline, I asked Maya follow-up questions as we listened, pausing the audio so that we could have a nice discussion. She had some trouble connecting-the-dots in the story details, but seemed to get better as prompted with responses. After listening, Maya and I took turns reading the story. Once we finished, Maya answered questions on her comprehension worksheet. She did not seem to want to write, and needed a lot of support to get her ideas on paper. In the end, Maya was able to come up with some really comprehension responses. We ended the day with a cut-out word-combination game.
