Maya practiced with her flashcards and watched a couple of short videos with catchy tunes to help her memorize the 4X tables. Then Maya took a practice drill. She is getting very good with her 4x tables. Then she worked in lesson 3-3, using mental math to subtract. Maya did several practice problems and a few independently. She definitely will need more practice with this skill. She understands the concepts, now she just needs to keep practicing. Excellent work today! Maya continued her FF program.
Today Maya practiced her 4X tables. Her time has decreased- she was able to complete 25 questions in 3 minutes. She should continue to practice these and the tables she has learned, thus far. Maya revisited lesson 3-2, subtracting two digit numbers on a number chart. She did great and we practiced many times. It is tricky for her when she needs to find a compatible number and then compensate, like on Friday. She did continue to practice this with support. Maya continued her FF program. In L-B, she read a passage entitled, The Dancing Plant. She visualized and verbalized the story and identified the main idea. Then she worked from her new book, where she read another story and did a sentence by sentence activity. She answered questions to check for visualization and comprehension. Maya did very well with this activity. Nice job, Maya!
Test, Earth in space, 22 questions including vocabulary , science concepts, and science process skills.
After test discussion about skeletons( definition, kinds) and print out some of them to decorate the science classroom (connection between science and Halloween )
Maya watched a clip on The Statue of Liberty introducing the inscription plaque posted on her base. We discussed the meaning of what it means and she colored an illustration of immigrants approaching America. She finished sketching the statue, and put together a craft with the inscription on it for her to memorize. After just 5 minutes of rehearsing her lines, she has the majority of it memorized. Please have her continue practicing these lines at home today.
In Math, Maya practiced her 4x tables. She is showing improvement in memorizing her multiplication tables. Maya worked on lesson 3-2, where she was able to use a number chart to subtract. She did very well when subtracting numbers that end in 0. For example 58-30. Maya will be encouraged to practice using numbers that do not end in 0. Some number problems involve finding a compatible number and then using compensation to find the answer on the number chart, such as 58-29. This type of problem was a little more difficult so we will continue to revisit this concept on Monday. In L-B, Maya worked out of her new book a multiple sentence story. Maya visualized and verbalized each sentence and answered some of the corresponding questions. Maya continued her FF program. Her report will be emailed tomorrow! Have a super weekend!
Halloween yoga game; yoga library book; review poses with foam board pics (half moon, slide, ragdoll, and lunge. We created new Halloween yoga poses and played the Halloween yoga game, doing poses we selected from the pumpkin. Maya requested that we read one of the yoga library books, so we read the Piggy book and did the poses along with the book. We also did leg stretches with the straps today. Maya also showed me some of her acrobatic and gymnastic moves.
