fantastic class. Everybody had stories to tell and we laughed and laughed.
Discuss Chapter 8 in depth. Read parts for dialog, take turns playing characters. Analyze Daisy's and Jay's character motivation. Discuss sound and touch and smell imagery in chapter (rare, rare, rare! and Fitzgerald is so good at it).
Students had a (surprise written activitiy today). They had to answer the question: Why do you suppose motivated James Gatz to transform himself into Jay Gatsby in the first place? Remember, the transformatino had been made long before he met Daisy. Sadie was absent today.
1Elements of a good fictional character 2.Attitudes are the outward manifestations of inner beliefs and values. A character shows who he/she is through actions born out of attitudes.
