Brooke came up with some great ideas for the Aridland story and took notes about each of the characters and the environment. Topics of the story that Brooke and I discussed were:
1. The forest where Ganger and the Daturas Butterflies live is made of crystals and glass.
2. The story and relationship between Ganger and Orphie and why they are friends
3. The characteristics of the new creature, a tarantula wasp which will be Brooke's next drawing.
To finish working on the ink drawing for Ganger and start an ink drawing for the Daturas Butterflies.

Brooke had a great session today. She finished working on both ink drawings for Ganger and the Daturas Butterflies. Afterwards, she started a detailed sketch of Orphie.
While Brooke was working on her drawings, I put the finished sketches and works into sheet protecters. When we meet again, the sketch and final drawing for Orphie should be completed along with other ideas for the Arid Land story.
To have Brooke apply different ink pens to her drawings and experiment with different points and thicknesses.

Brooke and I talked about her visit at Full Sail University and she showed me some pictures.
The visit was very informative but she is looking for a school with more illustration options.
Also, Brooke experimented with different ink pens to see which ones she likes best.
Afterwards, she drew over one of her drawing of Ganger in pen.
To discuss how Brooke's visit to Full Sail University went, and to have her continue working on her character drawings.
Also, to have Brooke continue to experiment with charcoal.

Brooke researched different butterfly species, and worked on drawing the Daturas Butterflies creatures. We also looked at images of butterflies by the artist Damien Hirst and the illustrations by Edward Gorey.
Afterwards, Brooke experimented with mark making using charcoal and erasure on paper.
The first drawing she created today was of a water bottle.
To review the three creatures discussed last meeting being Orphie, Datura Butterflies and the caterpillar/sea sponge. Then have Brooke pick one to create a well developed drawing showing the creature's physical characteristics.

Lesson Comments
Brooke worked on creating the caterpillar/sea sponge creature today.
After some research, we figured out that this caterpillar/sea sponge is actually better described as a land dwelling sea cucumber.
We looked up different species names and came up with his name which is Ganger. The species title itself is yet to be determined. Brooke and I looked up all sorts of caterpillars and sea cucumbers and couldn't find one that fit well.
While looking up names and researching images online, Brooke drew the body and physical characteristics of Ganger.
Once the session today was finished, Brooke had most of the body and head completed, but the details still needed to be sorted out which is her homework for Friday.
Also, the Datura Butterflies's names changed to Daturas Butterflies instead.
During the next few sessions, other drawings, preferably colorful ones, will be made of Ganger, Orphie and the Daturas Butterflies.
As a side note, during the meeting, Brooke was interested in walking around outside for a few minutes to look at the grasshoppers. She mentioned that she is inspired by them, and that their anatomy and characteristics may be used for her next creature in the story.
To continue working on Brooke's character development for her creatures.
The creatures she draws and writes about will be put into an art portfolio.
Assignment
The homework is to bring in a sketchbook, drawing materials and previous sketches. Also, have a name and traits ready for the new sponge/caterpillar creature.

Lesson Comments
Brooke has been wanting to work on her story called The Arid Land, which she originally created about 6 months ago. There are a couple of characters in the story such as Orphie and a sponge/caterpillar creature (the name is yet to be determined) and Datura Butterflies.
We spent time talking about her story, the land and the characters who live there. I asked many questions to keep her thinking about the details and I wrote down Brooke's answers.
My goal is to put all of her thoughts together and help her complete this body of work.
This story, among other stories and characters, I would like to help Brooke put together into a set of works that others could view through written descriptions and sketches.
Brooke forgot to get her supplies today, so next week, we will start putting these drawings and writings into a sketchbook and other well developed drawings into a 3-ring binder.
