I was going to do a Reading lesson with PJ but he was absent today.

We completed a pre-reading activity for the story. We discussed the elements of a horror story. We also defined the term, unreliable narrator. We then read the first few pages of the graphic novel version of the story. I love this version because it makes the story more easily understood with the accompanying graphics.

We read and discussed the main character for the book Diary of a Wimpy Kid-The Deep End.

Learning Goals: Matthew will read "Anansi Learns a Lesson" from the Wonders reader. Matthew will understand that
folktales are stories that often teach a lesson or explain why things (such as the sun, moon, and stars) exist as they do. Many folktales have animals as characters and have magical elements.

We continued our reading, focusing on comprehension.

Kellan showed me his latest comic. Then we read from a graphic novel.

We continued to read our short story, focusing on the rising action of the story.

Today, Kellan was asked to write a letter of gratitude to a teacher who has inspired him. He wrote to Ms. Anna and Mr. Marcus.

We continued reading about the first Thanksgiving. We discussed comprehension questions about the text.

We began reading a graphic novel called "Diary of a 6th Grade Ninja." We took turns reading aloud. I showed Kellan how to slow down so that he doesn't skip over words that are hard for him to pronounce. I demonstrated how to break up the words into syllables to help with pronuniciation.
