Nicholas came in tired. Then he was very upset at the beginning of the session because he saw that some children had taken apart some of his Lego construction. He cried and had difficulty settling down. I began with my reading rather than asking him to do something. He asked for the book I read with puppets, so I will bring that back for the next session.
Dillon did a wonderful job finding the main idea and supporting details today. He read an article about Kevin Durant and answered all the questions accurately. In addition, he was able to find text evidence to support his answers. He then read a ReadWorks assignment that was given for homework. He completed that assignment with ease. Next,he began reading an article about a Paralympic athlete. We will complete this reading at our next session. Dillon shared that he did an iReady diagnostic assessment at school this week. I am looking forward to the results!

Trenton completed a comprehension pre-assessment for the year. He did quite well! He had approximately 8 miscues on the oral reading placing him at the Instructional Level for the passage. With look backs he was able to answer all of the comprehension questions. He took a spelling inventory which I will be analyzing to determine how to best help him improve in his spelling. We looked over his grammar homework and discussed goals for improvement. We discussed what types of articles he might be interested in reading this year and he shared that he was really interested in learning about the past presidents. He chose a few articles about presidents from the “ReadWorks” platform that we will use next week.
Dillon completed the comprehension passage he started at our last session. He scored 6 out of 8 correct placing him at the Instructional level for third grade. When allowed to look back in the text, he was able to find the correct answer for the two questions he missed. He did an oral reading fluency check today as well. Dillon read at the rate of 83 words correct per minute. He is well within the target norm rate for his grade level. Dillon requested help on his homework, so we also spent time on his reading homework, which was a comprehension passage. Dillon was focused and worked hard today!
