Xavier came in mad at Morgan again. It took a little time to calm him. He did well with the math activity, remembering what we did yesterday. He struggled with the book report, not wanting to look back at the book and remember what he had read.

Xavier was angry when he arrived because of something that happened before he came. I tried different things to help him forget the situation so we could get some work done. I asked him what would help so that he can learn how to help himself. He asked for some videos, and this worked.
- Nicolas did his math homework of addition. He counted numbers on dice to get the answers.
- He did more math practice rolling large dice and adding.
- I read Tops and Bottoms to Nicholas while he played with animal puppets from the story. Afterward, we filled in the information on the school reading log.
- I used flashcards of consonant blends to have Nicholas practice his sounds.

Nicholas is constantly on the move. The puppets helped him listen to the story. He rolled on the floor while reading the flashcards. When he tried to hit me on the head with a pencil, I told him he is not allowed to hit me.
It was wonderful to see Dillon again and to begin our work together. After a short discussion about his summer and his new third grade class, we went right to work. We began with the Qualitative Reading Inventory word list. Dillon scored at a third grade Instructional level on the word list. Next, he began the third grade passage titled. "Places People Live". We were unable to complete the passage assessment as we ran out of time and will continue this work on Wednesday.

It was a struggle to get Xavier involved in anything today. I switched activities frequently. He moaned and didn't want to do anything. I think he was disappointed that he didn't have his iPad.

Xavier was not in a great mood when he arrived. He forgot to bring his iPad, but he participated better without it. He rolled on the floor while he read and threw dice before he settled into work at the desk. In the middle of a story he read, he looked ahead at the number of pages and complained that he couldn't do it. I kept encouraging him, and he eventually finished the story.
