Lesson Outline
-Cole was very keen to finally come full circle with the poem and its uses of lyricism for our essay introduction
-breaking down syntax, line lenth, meter and punctuation of a line for finding its hidden meaning to Dickinson: 'how does structure of a line and stanza dictate what Emily is saying without saying it in words?'
-review of a rhetorical question by James in the second paragraph of the 'Conversion' excerpt: readiness of spiritual conversion as it applies to Dickinson's response to her own loss of friends and loved ones
-take Emily and make her a contemporary living in Cole's world as a teenager, describe her feelings, her sheltered life, and why it all channels into her prolific writing
-defining postumous fame as a term for the essay title, and what drives Dickinson and other poets we've read (Reothke, Ginsburg, Plath, Middle Eastern anthology) to strive for permanence.
-'why does a writer consider their words important enough to take raw life experience and make it lasting in words?' for future generations / for their postumous collected works / for those who never knew them while they were living
