Patrick played several learning games in Fast ForWord. He engaged in the following tasks: sorting pictures or written words by first, last, or middle sound, choosing the correct letter to change one word into another, completing sentences by filling in the missing word. The activities he engaged in supported the following skills: phonemic awareness, letter sound-correspondence, reading comprehension, context clues, vocabulary.
Patrick read aloud the Carrot Seed. He did beautifully using his decoding skills, reading words like "afraid". Patrick identified quotation marks and their purpose. We read a passage from his V/V book about a Venus Flytrap plant. This sparked Patrick's curiosity. He had never seen or heard of this, so we watched a quick video of one in action!
Patrick completed his daily protocol. He completed one of his brain games ( Buzz Fly) on this level. He is doing fantastic. Flying Fish is the most challenging for him. This requires remembering and identifying a single word. It requires a lot of focus. In keyboarding Patrick finished typing his how-to writing. Great! In LB, Patrick listened to a read aloud- Fancy Nancy. We used this text to stress the importance of creativity when writing an entertaining piece. After, we researched some common idioms and discussed their meanings. Patrick added to his writing about a day he went to play paintball. Good job today, Patrick.
