Today Patrick and I did a short review and then he completed a mixed assessment including base-10 block picture models, double-digit addition without regrouping and single-digit subtraction. I waited outside the room for Patrick to complete the assessment independently. He seemed nervous. I told him he could do it, modeled the first problem and walked outside. Patrick completed the assessment with 100% accuracy! I am so proud of him. We will begin addition with regrouping next week.
Today Patrick reread Level D "What?". He read fluently with no assistance until he came to the word "please" on the last page. Even though this was only his second time reading the book, he read it as an independent level:) He also scored 100% on the comprehension test. Then I read the next chapter of Invisible Stanley. Patrick completed a one sentence response to the chapter. We spent the rest of our time researching for his writing and social studies reports. In writing he is working on a report about Lacrosse. He chose 3 subjects to research including: What is Lacrosse? Who are the famous players? and Lacrosse gear. In social studies he is working on oceans. When I asked Patrick how many oceans there are he said, "There is one. The entire ocean in connected." I though that was a very smart observation. He then determined that the big ocean has 5 connected parts: the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Arctic and Southern Oceans.
Today Patrick continued in his FF program and completed his daily protocol. He played Paint Match, a game in which he has shown tremendous improvement. He also played Tomb Trek. In Lindamood-Bell, Patrick worked on typing his descriptive writing piece. He demonstrated a lot of enthusiasm towards this piece of work. He has used many skills in order to create this. His typing skills have boosted his confidence since he is able to see that he can type words from his paper, and does not need to see the keyboard. He is learning new ways to use the computer program microsoft word to make his writing more interesting. For instance today he learned how to use the italic, bold, and underline keys. I am so extremely proud of his efforts and it is nice to see him being rewarded.
