Explore differences in animals through classifying. Activity: Classify plastic animals in four groups by how they are alike. Distinguish between and identify characteristics of birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles, and insects.
Patrick did an awesome job today in his FF program. He broke 2 of his highest scores. Patrick expressed his pride to me when he said, "Do you remember how horrible I used to be at this, now I'm really good!" I was happy to see that he has realized his own success. Patrick began a new story today entitled, The Wolf Pack. I keep reminding him to visualize the stories as he listens. He used his structure words to verbalize his recorded images. Patrick listened attentively to each sentence separately and was able to answer questions which required him to elicit details from his image. He was able to do this accurately. Patrick did well in his keyboarding class, completing 2 modules. He scored an 88 and a 92 in accuracy. Great day, Patrick!
Worked on subtraction using the counting down method. Patrick still needs some work with this concept. We also practiced addition facts and played a addition game.
Patrick did a super job today in LB. He completed a word summary on page 54 in his activity book. He responded to comprehension questions regarding the story, " The Long Trip". He finished this activity by answering higher order thinking questions. His responses were well thought out and answered in complete sentences. Patrick is doing well and his letter formation is showing improvement. Patrick is so sweet and I truly enjoy having him as one of my students.
Explore activity on page B11 and communicate how pets are alike. Write the observation in the chart/notebook. Identify characteristics of mammals. Using the illustrations on page B 12,13 discuss how are the mammals in the pictures alike (move, fur, feed their young milk).

Lesson Comments
Patrick is always willing to do more than he is asked to do.
Patrick seems overwhelmed about the idea of subtracting. We worked with our addition facts to 10 with Make a Number and then practicing with our strategies. Patrick seems less confident and is heavily reliant on the number line even in addition. Our goal is for Patrick to be able to identify the largest number and then count on or count back to add or subtract without the number line, so we will continue to practice before moving on.

I will continue to work slowly with Patrick. I truly believe he needs to fully master concepts before moving on so he can feel capable and successful. He was feeling and doing good with addition until we started exploring subtraction. Now he is struggling with both:(
Today I gave Patrick the choice to start with reading or math, he surprisingly chose reading:) Last week we read On My Way to School from Wonders. We reread the story to focus on fluency (reading like talking). Patrick read much smoother. We recorded him and then listened to a few pages. Next, I asked Patrick to predict the sequence of a new story Level D Bats. He was reluctant, but predicted the order correctly! He seemed to be very proud of himself. We read the story together alternating pages. He read fairly fluently and was successful with decoding.

Sweet as ever, but a little bit of an off day. Not as enthusiastic as usual. He seems to have lost his confidence for some reason. He seemed defeated before even beginning today:(
