Patrick played, "I have, Who has?" with his friends to the theme of learning double facts. I have 12. Who has the double for 7+7? I have 14, etc. He taught his friends the "Doubles Baby" song :) He completed lesson 6-1 in his workbook answering double fact questions, as well as double facts missing an addend. 4+___=8. At the end, we played with his double flash cards to see which ones he now knows, and which he still needs extra practice.
Patrick and I played Hangman Jr. He built and read words with the short o sound. He loves this game and was very motivated to play. He read Fox on a Rock to practice reading short o words in context. His reading is improving nicely. He cut out his handprint hen from yesterday and created a background that mimicked the setting from the story, The Little Red Hen. He completed a written response for the question, "Would you help the Little Red Hen if she asked you and why?" He practiced writing a complete thought, on topic, and including key words from the question in his response. He said he would help Hen so he could get some bread. Cute:)

Patrick really enjoys singing along as we play through the songs from the book. His chords sound great and w are working on strum timing and making sure he is counting his beats correctly while playing. He is doing very well.
Patrick completed Level 4, Stage 11 today and began Stage 12. In this stage Patrick learned the location of the shift key. This was a little tricky for him, as he has been used to touching a key, as opposed to holding one down simultaneously with another. He did some practice drills and displayed improvement. Patrick continued with his Fast ForWord program.
Patrick used the iPad to play a review game of identifying the continents and oceans. He identified 7/7 continents on his test. He is able to identify the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, and Southern Ocean, in addition to his continents. Great job!
Patrick practiced memorizing his Doubles Facts by singing the "Doubles Baby" song. :) He created a stereo system out of construction paper that contains the doubles facts and a "play" button for Patrick to "press" and sing his doubles. Please practice singing this at home while flipping through his doubles flash cards.
Patrick used letter magnets to build words with short o vowels for the following word families. (op, og, ot, ock, oss, ond) He would hear a word, identify it, create it, and then manipulate phonemes to create a new word containing one or more common spelling patterns. (Ex: moss, floss. shop, chop) Patrick recorded his new sight words of the week into his book. I sent home a list today that you can keep on the refrigerator for Patrick to practice reading and spelling throughout the week. He read Little Red Hen and created a story map including the title, characters, setting, what was made, and lesson learned. He did a great job of putting the lesson into his own words when recording it on his story map. He used paint to create a "Handprint Hen" he'll use tomorrow for a lesson. Please have Patrick practice re-reading this tonight to reinforce fluency.
Today Patrick read a short passage about a dancing plant. He was asked to visualize and verbalize this story. He demonstrated his ability to visualize through using gestures and using adjectives like shaky, and oval shaped. He answered HOT questions (higher order thinking). Patrick was constructed logical answers that provided good evidence to support his responses. Great job today!!
