Patrick began his session watching and singing with a YouTube video that focused on the days of the week in Spanish. He wanted to sing the song several times and picked up the tune and words quickly. As a follow-up activity, Patrick cut out the the days of the week in Spanish and matched them to the days of the week in English. We came up with some helpful ways to remember which day was which. As a conclusion to our session, Patrick worked on a Spanish days of the week word search. I taught him some effective strategies to find words in word searches, as well as practicing the spelling of the Spanish days of the week.
Explore and compare different soils. Identify the components of soil and understand that soils are different. Recognize the importance of soil as a natural resource.
Patrick continued his FF program. Please see email from Scilearn (weekly) for details of each day's activities. In V/V, Patrick worked on the Word Imaging step where he chose a known noun to visualize. This was a birthday cake. He gave lots of details, but it was hard for me to visualize at times because I could tell he was not seeing the total picture in his mind. Coaching and choice and contrast questions from myself helped to make this picture make more sense. He described a cake for his grandfather with layers and cupcakes in between. He was able to use his structure cards in order to provide more imagery. Great work, Patrick!
Patrick completed 4-5; finding missing parts of 10. He has been doing a great job of recognizing the missing parts because he has a solid foundation of his 10 facts, as well as understanding the concept of changing the order. (8+2, 2+8, etc.)
Patrick read Level C: Allie and Ollie. He completed a Venn Diagram to compare and contrast cats to people for his comprehension skill. He included 4 entries for how they are alike and came up with a way each are different. He added "people" into his sight word book and read it in context. Please make sure he continues to read every night, and practices reading his sight words, as well.
Patrick used an iPad application to practice identifying the 7 continents and 4 major oceans. He has North America, South America, Antarctica and Asia memorized. He still needs practice with Europe, Australia and Africa. I sent home a write and erase map along with a placemat for Patrick to eat on this week to practice his continents. Quiz on Wed.
Patrick did a great job in his FF program. He broke a new high score in Sky Gym. His weekly report will be sent by email on Saturday (tomorrow). In V/V today, he focused on part of a Word Imaging Step. He created imagery by picturing his dog, Buddy Girl, in his front yard by Leisha and a tree. Patrick provided details, but still had a difficult time picturing him, as he kept changing the location and what he was doing. This is very common and with more practice he should be able to match his picture to his provided gestalt. In this step Patrick is dual coding verbal to nonverbal, creating images after I verbalize the picture he has created for me. His imagery and memory are being developed. He is off to a great start and I look forward to seeing more success, as Patrick is exposed to all of the steps. Super job, Patrick!
