Today Patrick listened to Chapters 3 and 4 of Dinosaurs Before Dark, as he created a movie in his mind. After every few paragraphs, he provided the gestalt and summary of what happened. He used the structure words in order to provide details from the story. For example for "shape" he was able to describe things such as the crest on the dinosaur's head. Another example would be his ability to express the "time" of the story- 65 million years ago. Patrick continued in his FF program and beat his high score in Dog Bone.
Today Patrick picked a new Level F fluency passage from Reading A-Z to begin next week. Then we previewed several multi-syllabic words to decode from his chapter book. Lastly we read a chapter together.
Today Patrick and I used the frequency tables we made yesterday to make bar graphs. I modeled how to use the data to create a bar graph and then guided Patrick through completing each bar. After that Patrick worked on reading and interpreting information from various bar graphs. At first it was challenging for him, but he seemed to better grasp interpretation with the second graph. Lastly we reviewed triple-digit addition with regrouping.

Lesson Comments
Patrick was off today. He said he was tired because he went to bed late and couln't sleep. He also said he hurt himself playing golf!
Patrick continued in his FF program. In LB he continued to read Dinosaurs After Dark. He visualized while I read, and referred to his structure words. Patrick was very successful at identifying images he visualized and verbalizing them in complete sentences. His goal was to use words he had not used yesterday. In his Research class, he wanted to seek out information on the largest fish. He wrote down some of his ideas using a bulleted list. Then he watched a brief video on Brainpop Jr., informing him how to write a paragraph. He learned he needs a topic sentence, at least three details, and a closing sentence. He expressed this concept after watching the video. In keyboarding, Patrick continued to type his piece on going to play paintball. He also completed two modules. He scored two 87s. Great work today, Patrick.
Patrick and I choral read a chapter from his book. He did a wonderful job. He also asked questions and discussed details throughout the book. Then I chose 10 words from the book for Patrick to decode and read independently. He was mostly successful with this. We are really focusing on finding small parts of words and blending them together. Patrick is still confusing parts of words with small words. When he can identify small word parts within one word, he thinks it is a compound word. We will work on the difference between word parts and smaller words within larger words. After that, Patrick continued his repeated "At the Beach". He read fluently with no mistakes!!!! He is doing great:) Lastly we reread his paragraph from Monday to edit and revise mistakes. He was so focused and positive today! I love his energy!!!!
