Patrick does a great job getting his chord shapes correct, but we are working on his accuracy. He always gets his fingers in good position and on the right strings, but not always on the right frets. This will come with consistent practice. He is putting forth a great effort and his chords sound great when we correct the fret positioning.
We read a book that teaches the adjectives long, short, big, small, tall, and short (different in Spanish when used as stature). We then did an art project that created shapes showing these descriptions. We finished by reading the book once again to reinforce.
Today Patrick and I started out with writing. He chose a prompt about his favorite animal and wrote about his two dogs. Patrick wrote a 5 sentence paragraph including a topic sentence, 3 detail sentences and a closing sentence. It took Patrick just under an hour to complete his paragraph. He needed a lot of guidance and encouragement. However, he did an AMAZING job with spelling!!! He correctly spelled many of the words he has been struggling with all year. I am very proud of his sight word reading and spelling progress over the past week. After he completed his writing we went outside for a small break. Then we came back in to start a new level F repeated reading "Tree Houses". Patrick chose this passage and set a goal of 3 reads with 1 or less mistakes. He did well today, but got stuck/confused by a few words.

It is a major struggle to get Patrick to write. Surprisingly, the more he wrote, the more his attitude improved! I am just ecstatic about how much the repeated readings have helped his fluency in reading and writing. I see a clear crossover from being able to read words and now spell them.
The last step of the activity "Grow Colossal Crystals". Take the crystal out of the MAP (both red and clear) and complete the cleaning in cold water and dry them. Clean all glassware and working place.
Patrick continued in his FF program. He played three brain games today. He is doing a great job reading the passages in Dog Bones. Bear Bags is getting much easier for him, as he is successful matching word endings. Ant Antics is a little more challenging for him, as some of the answer choices are tricky and Patrick must read very carefully. The skill he is working on now is determining the differences between singular and plural uses in sentences, i.e.- the cats are, the cat is, etc. Patrick continued to read for understanding in his chapter book. He continued to identify how the author included specific words and ideas in order to create images in her readers' minds.
