Ayden continued his Fast ForWord program today. He played Hog Zone, Scrap Cat, and Chicken Dog. These brain games help improve spelling, decoding and sensitivity to letter sound correspondes. Scrap Cat specifically address decoding, vocabulary, and concept knowledge. Ayden is learning the differences between nouns, adjectives, and prepositions. Great work, Ayden!
Ayden played two different brain games. The first game he played was Book Monkeys. This game helps to strengthen reading comprehension. He read short passages and had to choose from 4 multiple choice answers. These passages have been read in the past, but it helps to improve his fluency and build confidence. In Hog Hat Zone he read passages that are excerpts from tales, poems, and stories and he had to choose from 4 different words, the word that would makes the most sense. He has to use semantics in order to choose which word fits best in the cloze passage. He is improving on using substitution as a strategy, rather than guessing.
Ayden did a nice job in Fast ForWord today. He read 3 different passages in Book Monkeys and answered questions for comprehension. In this brain game he must answer the questions correctly in order to proceed. When an answer is answered incorrectly, he must reread the passage and answer the question again. Ayden also played Canine Crew where he matched up various vocabulary words with their synonym. In Twisted Picture he listened to a description of a picture and had to find the corresponding picture from a choice of four different pictures. This game helps improve auditory, attention, and memory skills.
Will had very little trouble with today's exercises. His strengths seem to be in the sound recognition, both in words and pattern. He was very focused and did good work.

Moving into the skype lab has been great for WIll. He sits down and gets right to work, is very focused, and seems to have little trouble with the drills.
Will seemed a little distracted and irritable in the afternoon. Any sound will throw him off when he's doing fastforword, and I sneezed a couple of times with really seemed to throw him off. I haven't seen that behavior in him before.
