Russian Pattern Mixed Media and Drawing Cars
Lesson Outline
Today Anna painted all of her egg carton flowers red and yellow. Anna is combing the red and yellow flowers together in pairs to create fuller flowers with more visual interest. After Anna assembled all of her flowers, she painted a large cut out circle black. The flowers will be arranged and attached to this circle. The next step is to paint ornate details inspired by Russian patterns around where the flowers will be placed.

Today Quinn selected cars from a book to learn how to draw. The first car was a dune buggy and Quinn learned how to draw it in two point perspective. Using a ruler, Quinn established a horizon line and two vanishing points to create a three dimensional buggy. Quinn's second car was not in perspective but rather a straight side view. Quinn payed close attention to the placement of all the components that made up the car and successfully added them to his drawing.

Lesson Outline
Today Anna and Quinn continue their money unit using the 3rd grade text. Today's lesson 1-7 focused on adding coins as well as 1 and 5 dollar bills. Anna and Quinn did very well with today's lesson. We practiced writing amounts larger than a dollar in dollar form. For example, 134 cents is the same as $1.34. Anna and Quinn were both able to add amounts without physically adding them with coins. For example, they were able to count 15 cents for 3 nickels without have 3 nickels in their hands. Today they worked on the lesson 1-7 guided practice worksheet. We will continue this lesson again tomorrow.

After we did these stretches, we played "yoga dice." We took turns throwing the dice and had to do a yoga movement or pose that number of times. We then played "yoga hangman" and had to guess the names of yoga poses. We had a good balance of warm-ups, active yoga, and yoga mind games.
