Anna- Grammar- Introduced the concept of the subject of a sentence. Identified the subject of sentences. Vocabulary- Used the words in context.
Quinn- Grammar- Character, setting and events. Worked on working independently. Phonics- r and s blends, reading comprehension.

Reading short stories and answering comprehension questions about the stories. Worked on typing skills by typing a writing they did earlier in the week.

Today in math, Anna and Quinn practiced adding money. We began class by reviewing place value, reading 6 digit numbers, comparing numbers and ordering numbers.We began our money lesson by identifying the different coins and their values. Anna and Quinn both struggled a little with identifying the coins. We will spend more time on money in the coming days.

Today was a very busy day in science. We began by reviewing living things and the parts of a cell. Then we continued talked about cells. Today we learned about the size of cells. Anna and Quinn traced their hands and put a little dot on their hand. They estimated how many cell they thought would fit on that dot. They filled a circle with beans and saw that a lot of beans fit inside the circle. They learned that cells are extremely small. We then began talking about plants. Anna and Quinn watched a short Brainpop video on the parts of a plant and the needs of a plant. Anna and Quinn completed a book on the parts of a flower and the job of each part. Then they completed a worksheet which required them to illustrate and label the 4 needs of a plant. Anna and Quinn both really enjoyed today's lesson.

Introduce Anna to artist Franz Marc and pay close attention to his abstracted backgrounds.
Find an image of a horse and learn how to draw it.
Incorporate Quinn's love of Off Road trucks by creating a mixed media race track.
Use sand, cardboard, paint, styrofoam and recycled materials to construct track.

We started with the calendar, then moved to the concept of where we are going on specific days. We worked only in "going" for a while, and played a game where Anna and Quinn told me where we were going and I pushed them in the chair.

Worked on calendar skills- Days of the week and months of the year.
Anna- Using inference skills. Read a story and wrote about four reasons the character was sad. Answered other comp questions about reading.
Quinn- Worked on fluency and phonic skills.

Use the internet to find the manual for the RC car we are going to build.
Review manual and build procedure.
Make and print list of tools and materials we will need to execute the build.

Anna: Review song Vacation Time and begin working on Home on the Range.
Quinn: Continue working on Happy Birthday song and A, E and D chords.

We had a little hiccup at the beginning of our class today. I handed out a blank map of the world and wanted Anna and Quinn to label the continents and the oceans based on what they could remember. Anna started to cry, as I think she thought this was a quiz. I told her not to worry, but she was pretty upset. We put this assignment to the side for today, but we'll pick it back up next week. Instead, they each designed, drew, and described their one pirate flag. Today, they learned about the differences between political maps and physical maps, and they were able to identify the differences on their own. We talked about the equator, why land around the equator is hot, and the different hemispheres. At the end of class, they watched a BrainPop video that reviewed the 5 main topics of geography and some of the terms we discussed today.
