We created two different crafts and talked about Day of the Dead. First we made banderas, skull banners. Then we colored in masks to wear this Friday. I told Anna and Quinn about the celebration of Day of the Dead in Mexico.
Anna and Quinn began their session by completing a chapter 2 review on the board. Anna and Quinn had their chapter 2 test today. This was 12 question multiple choice test focusing on rounding numbers. Anna and Quinn each took turns on Sumdog and taking their test. Quinn completed his test and scored an 11 out 12. Anna currently has an 10 out of 11 and will finish the last question of her test tomorrow.
Today Anna and Quinn worked on lesson 14-1. This lesson focused on measuring objects to the nearest inch. Anna and Quinn had to estimate how long a given object was and then find the actual length to the nearest inch. Anna and Quinn had a lot of fun with this activity. They measured the length of their foot, hand, books, markers etc. They then recorded their answer on a chart. They both completed a measuring worksheet, lesson 14-1 enrichment and practice.
Today Anna and Quinn explored the different states of matter. We began by watching a Brainpop video on the different states of matter. We then completed a lab in which Anna and Quinn combined cornstarch and water. When they touched it it was a hard. When Anna and Quinn held it, it became a liquid. Anna and Quinn both thought that this mixture was a liquid. We talked about how this mixture is a suspension because it acts as a solid and a liquid. Anna and Quinn then watched a video on matter changing state. Anna and Quinn made a flip book on how matter changes state. We finished class by combining baking soda and vinegar together and seeing how it creates a gas as it fills up a balloon.
