Lesson Comments
Anna and Quinn did very well today. Quinn had to be redirected several times when he got too close to Anna, but responded to direction well.
Quinn and Anna took a learning style test today. Anna test showed that she learns through nature and pictures. Quinn learns through body movement. We also videoed oral reading for our time capsule.
It was so nice to meet Anna and Quinn today. Today, we began working on Envision lesson 1-1. This lesson focused on understanding place value. We started our lesson by learning what each place value block looks like and the value that each block represented. Then, Anna and Quinn practiced writing the value of each number in a place value chart. We talked about different ways that we can write a number. I introduced the vocabulary words: standard form, expanded form and word form. Anna and Quinn used their whiteboards (place value charts) to practice writing a given number in each of these forms. They each completed the interactive learning sheet for lesson 1-1. In this exercise they each showed given numbers in the different forms. We played a game called Toss and Talk. This game allowed them to practice converting numbers into different forms. They really seemed to enjoy this game. We finished our class by reviewing tonight’s homework. In the last 3 minutes of class, Anna and Quinn worked on a Mad Minute addition worksheet.

Both Anna and Quinn seem to struggle with the speed they can answer basic addition facts. We will continue working on this skill.
Yoga in lieu of science: Anna and Quinn helped me get the dojo ready and cleared out. We then talked about plans for yoga class this year. We listed what Anna and Quinn liked best from the previous year. We also talked about our "Back to School yoga" project that we will start soon. We reviewed some standing poses today and some arm and leg movements. Anna and Quinn listened well today and were very helpful with getting the room set up.
Discus about polymer(properties) sodium polymer acrylate before the activity. The white powder is better known as the superabsorbent powder polymer hidden in lining of baby diapers. Talk about that the word polymer simply means long chain of molecules. Make conclusion after activity that when water comes in contact with the polymer, it moves from outside the polymer to the inside and causes to swell.
Use tables to solve problems involving number patterns. Students practice that some problems can be solved by recording and organizing data in a table and by finding and using numerical patterns in the table.
