In lieu of Yoga - Social Studies/Hanukkah
Lesson Outline
In the absence of our yoga teacher, Quinn and Anna had a lesson extension from yesterday's social studies class. They began their session listening to a booked called, Hanukkah in Alaska. Quinn and Anna loved hearing about winter life in Alaska. They both remembered what 4 things are found on a title page from yesterday and also made some wonderful connections with the character in the story. They both recalled several facts that they had learned about Hanukkah and were able to discuss them at length. After completing the story, Quinn and Anna worked on writing their Hanukkah books from yesterday. They both worked extremely hard and put great effort into their writing.

Lesson Comments
Anna was faster, but she mixed subtraction of the same numbers and subtract zero from a number. She knows this subtraction, but the only reason is that when she cries she gives nonsense answers.
Quinn solved all and he was very proud. His behavior was today excellent and there is a big improvement in his attitude.

Hanukkah
Lesson Outline
Quinn and Anna began their social studies session by playing the dreidel game with their school mates. They had learned the hebrew letters and their meanings yesterday and retained the material. They really enjoyed playing with their friends. Afterwards, we went back to their classroom and reviewed everything that we have learned about Hanukkah this week. Then we read a non-fiction book about Hanukkah and discussed the connection of the Maccabee's fighting for their freedom of religious expression and Hanukkah. Both Quinn and Anna had lots of thoughts and insights on this topic. Next we read an adorable story by Eric Kimmel called, The Hanukkah Bear. We ended the session with each student starting a book about Hanukkah. We went to the computer lab and learned about Google images to find book cover designs and then started the writing process.
