We are working through his weekly assignment this week, and completed his discussion post.

We worked on his test including roles and importance of communication in the organization and between individuals in the communication era. Communication is essential and ubiquitous. It is hard to imagine life without modern communication technology, which has gone from science fiction 40 years ago to an essential part of our daily life today. As people get older, fewer and fewer people will remember the days before cell phones and the Internet. He also looked at the four emerging perspectives and their impact on the study of organizational communications: the Communication Constitutes Organizations (CCO), Postmodern, Critical Theory, and Feminist, Race, and Class Theory.

We completed his statistics homework.

We worked on his discussion topics which included ethical communications (abusing ethics, the arbitrary nature of ethics, the good intentions of lying, truthful hyperbole, the lack of standards, the benefits and costs of being unethical/ethical, etc.) and interpersonal communications (Effectiveness, cultural intelligence, valuing diversity, barriers to effective interpersonal communications like preconceptions, stereotypes, prejudices, communication steles, etc.)

We worked on his discussion where he is supposed to select two of the theories from the book and explain why he likes them. He chose ethics in communication and interpersonal relationships.

We discussed his next discussion which calls for examples from his experience of organizational communication and show how they fit into the theories studied in Ch. 1-6. We shared various examples from our own experiences.

We are now in the process of working through his week 4 assignment.

We completed his calculus homework and statistics homework for the week.

We completed the majority of his calculus work. Tomorrow we have to complete his assignment, his quiz, and finish the statistics work.

We read and discussed this week's case study about a manager in a market with communication problems that led to two supervisors requesting a transfer. This manager used money as incentives to increase sales and reduce costs, but the supervisors became disgruntled anyway saying the manager was not responsive to their needs. We concluded that even though the supervisors were being paid more than they would be paid at a different store, the extra money was not enough to compensate them for what they considered poor working conditions. We went through the case study guide and discussed each point and Brandon had a good example of trying to get a manager to change his habits, but being unsuccessful in the attempt.
