Brandon gathered all of the information from various texts to answer this discussion board. As a result, he needed to provide full in-text citations and a reference page to go along with his discussion board post. Brandon responded that the Englishmen from Jamestown immigrated on a temporary basis, with building wealth as the primary purpose. The Englishmen who traveled to Plymouth, MA did so to escape religious persecution and build new lives and communities in the new world.
Brandon and I read Chapters 1 and 2 of his Coming to America textbook, looking for clues that corroborated our findings from yesterday. Unfortunately, the book had little to offer in terms of the types of Englishmen who immigrated to the New World, so it was a good thing that Brandon consulted another text to get a better understanding of the discussion board question. For his post, Brandon began outlining his response to each question. Tomorrow, we will begin writing.
Brandon's Coming to America textbook has still not arrived, so we looked through several of the school's history books to get some information on the discussion board post, which asked Brandon to identify the reasons that Englishmen immigrated to the New World at Jamestown and then later at Plymouth Rock. We found some good stuff that Brandon wrote down to later corroborate with the required text.
Brandon started his new set of courses today (Coming to America, Supply Chain Management, and Human Computer Interaction). We read through each of the course requirements, making sure that Brandon had a solid understanding of the discussion board requirements and each course's major assignments. Afterwards, we read through some of the online reading readings. Brandon is excited received a grade of A in each of the classes from the previous semester.
We finished up with the lecture materials and then spent some time talking about it. Brandon at least has his experience to build off and use as a reference point, which was the topic of his discussion post for this week. We still have the weekly assignment to work through tomorrow and thursday.
Today was the first day of the class, and given I didn't know what I would be working on, I hadn't done any prep work for it. But we worked our way through the syllabus and the intro discussion, talked about what our weekly requirements and goals were, and then started working our way through the lecture material. Brandon is going to have to put a little more effort into this class than previous ones.
Brandon completed his Business Dynamics paper by adding some research findings to his body paragraphs. Brandon looked at Forbes magazine, Entrepreneur, and Business Insider to find articles on the relationship between Dunkin' and its franchisees. There were some articles that provided criticism of corporate's rigid requirements (potential franchisees must demonstrate at least $500,000 in net worth), but there were others which discussed the investment's long-term rewards. Brandon used both points-of-view to augment his ideas. He completed the paper by writing a full bibliography and formatting everything in APA style.
