We took a brief look at the Papa John's International case study in the book and discussed a few things about its origin. We worked on the strategy project in the Digital Camera Industry researching Canon, GoPro, Lytro, Nikon, and Sony and classifying their market strategy as focused low-cost, overall low-cost, focused differentiation, overall differentiation or best-cost.
Brandon worked on his Glo-Bus parameters for a while before we worked on his weekly discussion. The discussion where we are supposed to categorize five companies in the camera business (Canon, GoPro, Lytro, Nikon, Sony) as low-cost narrow focus, low-cost broad focus, differentiated narrow focus, differentiated broad focus or best-cost. We started the research on each company's marketing strategies and price structure.
We discussed last week's results for his Glo-Bus project and the meeting he had with his group. The project is being reset to the first week so they can apply what they learned in the first two weeks so Brandon worked on entering new parameters including sales growth, p/q ratio, competitive comparison, warranty period, etc.
We worked on his weekly discussion questions involving determining the three best and worst performance measures from their weekly Glo-Bus project, determining their core competencies, and doing a Weighted Competitive Strength Assessment. Brandon tweaked the parameters of the Glo-Bus project again to try to increase the net profit and competitive position.
We completed the discussion posts, and he completed his two responses. We talked about his nutrition log that he will have to complete within the next three days for his project.
Brandon worked on his Glo-Bus strategy assignment including product design, marketing, compensation and facilities, special contract offers, corporate citizenship, and finance and cash flow. As he changed the parameters for each of these he had to ensure the profitability of the company by watching the numbers on the balance sheet and profit and loss statement.
We continued working on his PESTEL (Political, Economic, Sociocultural, Technological, Environmental, Legal/Regulatory) environment of several companies including Alibaba, Cumulus Radio, Kaplan, Keurig Coffee, Klimpton Hotels, VTB Bank, and ZTE.
