We reviewed the format of a five paragraph essay. We discussed the persuasive essay and Joey chose a topic from among five choices. We used a template to make an outline for the essay.

I went over strategies for Joey to use with non-fiction material and ways to interact with the text. Then we read an article and he used the strategies.

Lesson Outline
We went through "The Palm Beach Post" and "The NY Times" and found and examined the indexes, editorials, letters to the editor and other sections. We discussed fact and opinion in newspapers and the format of a news articles.
We discussed the format and parts of a business letter. I showed Joey samples and a diagram. Then we discussed tone and content. Joey wrote a sample business letter.
