We read about the German, Austrian, and Swiss school systems and talk about them. We review the names for some common occupations and say where the people work (e.g. at school, at a bank, etc.) We look at pictures and say where people and things are, reviewing the prepositions of location and the dative case.

Michael's cousin is in town and Michael seems very sleepy. He makes an effort to stay focused, but it's difficult. We get things done but we progress a little slower than normal.
Michael asked me some questions about Americans at home during the war. The short propaganda films I showed him illustrate the American reaction in a primary source capacity. While this was a little off topic it required primary source analysis, which is an invaluable historical skill. Good session.
We practice questions. I have Michael complete questions with the missing verbs. Then I have him fill in the blanks of another text with the right question words. Then we play interviewer and interviewee and ask each other questions.
We look at pictures of people doing different occupations and learn names for the occupations in German. We talk about what the people do as part of their work.
We practice differenciating words with long and short vowels and we practice tongue twisters that have a lot of "Umlaute".

Practicing questions went well, but we still need to do more of that. Distinguishing between long and short vowels went extremely well. I was surprised since, for Spanish speakers, this tends to be very hard.
Michael and I spent a lot of time discussing current events today. (It was a busy news day!) He seems a little bummed about not having heard from many schools. Good session.
