We continued our discussion of the Golden Ratio and its appearance in the art and architecture of ancient Greece as well as in that of the renaissance and modern times. We compared the mathematics of Leonardo's Last Supper with that of Salvador Dali.

The problem was a related rates problem. The dimensions of the pool in meters--it had a shallow end and a deep end. And the rate (cubic meters per minute) at which water was being pumped in. The issue was to determine, at a stated depth, the percentage of the pool filled with water and the rate at which the depth was changing.

We discussed and compared mathematical and scientific development in Europe after the fall of the Roman Empire and in the Arab World during the same time. We explored how the Arabs translated ancient Greek mathematical and architectural ideas into Arab and how many of these translated texts included reference to the golden ratio.
