Renaissance Art
Lesson Outline
Will explored the lives of the three most famous Italian artists of the Renaissance. He constructed a chart to outline the life events, ideas, interests, and masterpieces created by Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and Raphael. Through this session we viewed mini-biographies, and examined several of the most famous sculptures and paintings of the Italian Renaissance. We discussed the implications for advances in medicine, architecture, art, and the sciences as a result of these individuals imaginative works (i.e. da Vinci's dissection of corpses, fascination with muscles and bones, sketches of the human body=advances in understanding of anatomy and physiology). Read I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud

Will had a solid first day. We spent today getting to know each other and having a discussion about the definition and role of literature in our lives. Will was an active participant in the discussion, and we covered everything from books, to movies, to song lyrics, to poetry. At the end we read the poem "I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud" and talked about the subjective nature of art/literature, and the freedom for the reader to find his/her own meaning. It was a great session.
