Brandon finished the draft of his assignment: a memo outlining an upcoming recommendation report to the administrators of a University. He used the P3 process of planning, packaging, and perfecting the memo.
Brandon and I reviewed chapters 5,6, and 10 of his textbook and then outlined and planned out the memo assignment that required him to describe the details of an upcoming recommendation report. We also analyzed samples of memos from his textbook and went through a few of the practice questions that asked him to rewrite wordy or confusing sentences. Lastly, Brandon began the first draft.
Brandon and I discussed using email, IMing and text messaging in the workplace. We reviewed the chapter from his textbook which covered the benefits and pitfalls of each communication medium. Next I helped Brandon outline and write his assignment, which was an email asking an old professor for a reference. After he drafted it, we reread and revised it twice over.
Jake worked on adding textual evidence to his literary analysis paper. He then created a quick outline for his essay. Next he added details, transitions, and explanations of his arguments within the body paragraphs.

Jake has a wonderful understanding of the literary elements and symbolic meaning of the play. However, he has trouble articulating these ideas. I continually prompted him to add more details and nuanced persuasive language. Overall, he is motivated and doing well.
Today, I met with Netra for the first time. We reviewed her graded IB paper, and revised the research question to reflect the time and topic of her content. We also edited sentences, punctuation, and word choice, and discussed research, MLA citations, and overall organization.

We met from 8:25-10:05 a.m. We extended our meeting time because I was late (my apologies--it was Sunday morning) and she needed more time anyway. We had planned for an hour. I gave her an additional 40 minutes.
We made further progress regarding Netra's IB essay due in December on the role of sugar in US-Cuban relations. We worked with a few defining questions and crafted a draft of the initial segment.
