Gio took an exam over solving quadratic equations involving different methods. We then started working on evaluating imaginary numbers in the complex number set.
Gio continued solving quadratic equations through various methods. Methods involved completing the square, quadratic formula, and taking square roots. We also practiced simplifying radicals in preparation for complex numbers. He will be assessed on solving quadratics next session
Solving Quadratics by Factoring and Completing the Square
Lesson Outline
Today Gio assessed over factoring trinomials and solving quadratic trinomials. It took him some time to complete, but he earned a perfect score. Because of the slow completion time, we again practiced multiplication facts afterwards to try and speed up his processes. Following that, we started solving quadratics by using the completing the square method.
Today we continued last session's topic on factoring trinomials. We then progressed into solving quadratic equations after factoring. Gio will be assessed on this topic next session.
We factored trinomials in the form of ax^2 + bx + c where a=1 and where a>1. We spent significant time on this topic, but hit "speed bumps" where Gio's rate of completion was slower than desired. We then took a break and practiced multiplication facts in order to increase processing speed. Gio took a multiplication timed test, which we will continue to do and track his progress. Gio also downloaded some phone apps that he will practice on.
After an assessment over Matrix operations, Gio finished the Matrix unit by concluding with finding determinants and inverses of matrices. We also practiced multiplication facts, as speed of computation has been hindering Gio in understanding complex topics.
Today Gio reviewed scalar addition and subtraction of Matrices. We then introduced and thoroughly explored matrix multiplication. Tomorrow, Gio will assess on these topics and begin determinants and inverses of matrices.
Today we defined, and performed the operations of addition and subtraction on matrices of multiple dimensions. We then solved matrix equations without inverses. Tomorrow, we will work on matrix multiplication and solving with inverses.
Gio tested over systems of equations in two variables and systems of inequalities. We then covered systems of equations in three variables through elimination and substitution. Lastly, we practiced multiplication facts to increase speed of computation.
Gio solved systems of equations in two variables using several methods such as graphing (by hand and on calculator), substitution, and elimination. Next session Gio will be assessed on the topic, and will begin solving systems in three variables.
